Update on Winter 2020 from Anna Keeling
30 April 2020
Kia Ora everyone,
Chill and Anna Keeling Guiding have provided Snow Safety courses, Introduction to Backcountry riding classes and the iconic Craigieburn Haute Route for 6 years. We are not stopping now. As long as alert levels allow, we are getting creative and plan to keep running our scheduled trips and courses in winter 2020. The guides of AKG are professionals trained in risk management in the mountains and Covid 19 could be considered just another risk to be managed. The basis of ski guiding is to manage avalanche and other hazards using effective systems - weather and avalanche forecasts, identifying avalanche terrain and other terrain problems (such as slide-for-life), make the correct clothing and gear choices, navigate using maps, follow safe travel protocols …. and find the best skiing and riding.
We look forward to spending time in the mountains this coming season with our community. Kia kaha and as ever, be kind!
Please stick with us!
PS. If you are a New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC) member, Anna will be doing a live talk on the NZAC FB page on how to get into backcountry touring. April 30 at 8pm.
